We are pleased to reflect on the successful 7th Starlab Sustainability Weeks, which took place from 6 to 17 October 2025, focusing entirely on the circular economy in laboratories.

Under the title “Beyond greenwashing: effective strategies for lab recycling and real sustainability,” we demonstrated how our TipOne® closed-loop recycling system operates. The key point: collected materials are transformed into new racks. More than 2,000 labs are already part of this journey. Our approach: real conversations instead of one-way lectures. Our teams visited labs across Europe to share practical expertise. This was complemented by a webinar series that highlighted effective recycling in practice. Sustainability only works together – and we aim to provide the foundations of a circular economy for our customers.

Starlab Sustainability Weeks 2025: Thrilling events spanned Europe, from Italy to the UK, online and offline.

  • In southern Germany, we conducted a clean-up initiative where our team, together with customers, collected waste and raised awareness about environmental protection.
  • In France, our dedicated team creatively showcased our TipOne® closed-loop recycling system with a LEGO set, enabling participants to grasp the recycling process brick by brick, making the circular economy tangible and easy to understand.
  • In Austria and Germany, we carried out planting activities where cacti were planted in reused TipOne® racks. These symbolic actions highlighted our commitment to sustainability and the creative reuse of laboratory waste. The cacti symbolize resilience and adaptability – qualities that reflect our sustainable practices in the lab.
  • These activities were complemented by our webinars, which highlighted effective recycling strategies and facilitated the exchange of expertise.

Circular Economy in the Lab – with Starlab

Our TipOne® Recycling Service is a central part of the Starlab Sustainability Weeks, demonstrating how effectively sustainable practices can be implemented in laboratories. More than 2,000 labs are already part of this programme, actively collecting their TipOne® system components and contributing to the circular economy. The impressive reduction of environmental impact the circular economy brings is already visible: through collaboration with the REMONDIS Group, Starlab achieved significant resource savings in 2024:

  • The recycling programme saved 38.72 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent,
  • which corresponds to the annual carbon sequestration of approximately 1,575 trees,
  • which is about 40% of the trees currently growing in Hyde Park in London.

Talking Together, Changing Together.

Our approach during the Starlab Sustainability Weeks is distinguished by a focus on genuine conversations and the exchange of practical knowledge. Instead of one-way lectures, our teams visited labs across Europe to directly interact with scientists and lab personnel. These visits enabled us to develop tailored solutions for more sustainable work practices and address individual challenges. This was complemented by our webinar series, which highlighted effective recycling in practice and provided participants with valuable insights into sustainable strategies.

United for a Greener Future.

Sustainability only works through collaboration, and this was clearly demonstrated during the Starlab Sustainability Weeks. According to our survey among webinar participants, 90% view Starlab as a leader in lab sustainability. 60% already use our TipOne® recycling service, and another 30% now plan to sign up. Our transparent communication and clear distinction from “greenwashing” were particularly appreciated by participants. Across seven webinars, we reached over 225 people, showing that our approach to pursuing real solutions resonates widely. The collective effort to develop and implement environmentally friendly solutions is crucial for achieving long-term change.
