Our 'greenest' products

Starlab is committed to improving sustainability in science. Our ideas start with our “reduce, reuse, refill, recycle” philosophy for our products.

TipOne® pipette tip system

TipOne® was designed as a plastic-saving pipette tip system. The racks are reusable with the easy to use refill systems. All PP packaging components are recyclable. The redesigned in 2016 had two aims – to update its look, and to save more plastic. Both aims were acheived! TipOne® is made in a factory powered 100% by wind energy and and is a convincingly sustainable pipette tip system which continues to evolve...

TipOne® pipette tip refills

Two ways to reduce plastic lab waste in the lab: reduce the amount of plastic coming into your lab in the first place and, reuse wherever you can. With TipOne® refills, you do both!  REDUCE the amount plastic coming into your lab (by up to 63% with the sterile refills) compared to using the racked equivalent and REUSE your TipOne® racks again and again. What's more, we have now started to manufacture the clear plastic packaging on our refills with 100% recycled plastic.

TipOne® recycling

All TipOne® packaging components made of Polypropylene (PP) can be collected for recycling via the Starlab recycling service. The service is easy to use: collect the recycling then simply go on online to print a courier label and organise a collection. The service is currently available to all TipOne users located on UK mainland. Click to watch our video and to register for the service.

ErgoOne® manual pipettes

When it comes to lab waste, pipettes don't usually spring to mind, but pipette spares can contribute to an accumulation of plastic waste. Starlab's ErgoOne® pipettes have a greased system, which means they do not have the seal and o-ring parts that other manufacturers recommend changing annually on their pipettes. Stainless steel tip cones on the ErgoOne® micro models also help prevent accidental breakage of these delicate parts, thus limiting the waste associated with more frequent replacement.

Freezer racking

Freezer racking helps optimise capacity by keeping freezers tidy and maximising storage space for efficient use. Our high quality racking prevents the need for regular repair or exchange and is made with 85% recycled stainless steel. Also, the racks are manufactured in Germany, in a factory powered by 100% sustainable energy. Short journey distance from factory to customer reduces delivery carbon footprint.

GuardOne® workstations

Designed with the environment in mind! Innovative flat-pack design reduces package volume, providing a 50% saving on both space and shipping costs, compared to comparable competitor units. UV lamp lifespan of up to 9000 hours significantly reduces both the cost and waste associated with frequent replacement. Energy-saving LED lighting and the latest fan technology, means the GuardOne® Workstation has one of the lowest power consumptions available on the market.

StarGuard® nitrile gloves

Smart packaging! StarGuard Comfort and StarGuard Sensitive have 250 and 200 gloves respectively, packed into the same size packaging as 100 gloves - this reduces transport emissions and packing materials. All StarGuard® gloves are made in factories carefully selected to ensure the production line is free from work abuse and unethical practices, and the manufacturing complies with the fundamental conventions of the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

Reusable silicone lab mat

Prevent the waste caused by paper or plastic bench liners. The Starlab reusable silicone lab mat is so versatile! It will keep your bench clean and safe from stains and spills, it reduces vibration sound from equipment, it is chemically resistant and chemically inert, and it will protect your bench from from hot objects. It is easy to clean too - use any standard disinfectant, or pop into the autoclave or dishwasher. It even has a convenient, internal metal inserts to keep your stir bars safe!

Chemgene Disinfectant

Save on plastic waste! Available in 5 L bottles, Chemgene concentrate makes 55 litres of 1:10 solution or 550 litres of 1:100 solution. Buying concentrate and diluting yourself, means you are not only saving the amount of plastic purchased, but you're likely to be reusing the spray bottles you're using with the diluted product. Concentrate provides savings on transport emissions too.

Distel DS Disinfectant

Eliminate plastic wipes with this reusable disinfectant system. Once diluted, use the disinfectant with any plastic-free or paper cloth to minimise the use of single-use plastic in your lab. Get going with the Starter Pack comprising 1L disinfectant concentrate and five reusable bottles. 1L bottles of concentrate are available on their own so you can keep refilling and reusing the bottles.

Reusable Reservoirs

Limit the use of single-use plastic in the lab with our reusable Reagent Reservoirs. We have reservoirs made from polypropylene that can be autoclaved and reused again and again. Alternatively, the ChannelMate Reservoirs save on both waste and storage space; they combine a sturdy reusable base with ultra-clear inserts to create a unique and plastic-saving refillable reservoir system.

Bath Beads

Designed for water baths, these thermally efficient pellets will reduce your water consumption and the risk of water-borne contamination.

Not only that, they also eliminate the tedious maintenance of emptying, cleaning and and refilling your water bath. Bath beads transfer both heat and cold with high efficiency.
